Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom signed into law legislative reforms making Holocaust denial a criminal offense.

The law adopted Wednesday makes Holocaust denial an offense punishable by imprisonment of up to three years.

Tamas Raj, a charismatic retired chief rabbi and one of Hungary's top intellectuals, has died.

Raj, who worked to reduce the persistent misunderstandings that divide the Jewish and Christian communities of Hungary, died Monday following a long illness. He was 70.

A survivor of the Holocaust, he also suffered from prolonged police harassment under the ensuing anti-religious communist regime.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Tuesday honored Britons whose extraordinary actions helped save Jews and other Holocaust victims during World War II, calling them a source of national pride.

Brown met two surviving recipients ? Nicholas Winton and Denis Avey ? at a reception at his Downing Street home, and praised the role of 26 others in saving the lives of those persecuted by the Nazis.

Britain has minted a new "Hero of the Holocaust" medal ? a silver medallion ? after a campaign by Jewish groups and lawmakers to win recognition for the bravery of those involved in the rescues.

Arnold Forster, an attorney who had a nearly 60-year career at the Anti-Defamation League, has died.

Forster fought against anti-Semitism and extremism, and advocated for civil rights and the State of Israel. He was 97 when he died Sunday night.

In 1938 he organized a team of lawyers to serve as the volunteer legal arm of the Anti-Defamation League. He joined the staff of ADL in 1940, and as associate national director was primarily responsible for building ADL's law department and civil rights program. In January 1946 he was appointed general counsel, a position he held until 2003, though he retired from the ADL in 1979.
